The Assegai is the ultimate downhill tyre co-developed by former downhill world champion Greg Minnaar. He has incorporated all his many years of experience in racing there. The basic idea behind it was to get the best out of already known Maxxis profiles.
The well-running cleats from the Minion DHF and Minion DHR II were implemented in the middle of the tread. This gives excellent rolling on hard surfaces, but also grip on wet roots and stones. Slightly reshaped side knobs on the HighRoller take care of fast corners. With these you have a clearly defined limit and always enough reserves. Finally, the shorty adds its profile height and provides sufficient traction even on deep forest floors. With this intelligent mix you can really let it rip.
Wide Trail Casing (WT)
This special carcass construction optimizes the tread layout and tyre shape on today's wider rims. Traditional tyres are developed for narrow rims and get a too square shape on wide rims and thus a less than optimal performance.
WT tyres are optimized for an internal rim width of 35 mm, but work excellently on all rims with an internal dimension between 30 and 40 mm.
Tubeless Ready (TR)
tube tyres have many advantages: You can drive with less air pressure. This gives better traction and reduces rolling resistance. And where there is no tube , the risk of punctures is also reduced. MAXXIS TR tires are better prepared for mounting with sealant than other "tubeless ready" tyres. The bead of our TR tyres is completely covered with a rubber layer like a real UST tubeless tube . As a result, tube installation is successful for all rims with standard dimensions the first time you pump it up and with little liquid.
"Normal" MAXXIS MTB tyres can also be mounted tubeless with sealant like tyres from other manufacturers, as the carcass fabric is very dense.
However, only the new MAXXIS TR models are officially approved for tubeless installation and guaranteed by MAXXIS. The tubeless assembly of other models is at your own risk.
Note: We strongly advise against the use of sealant containing ammonia. Ammonia has been shown to attack the carcass and, depending on the amount used, can weaken it by up to 30% after just a few months.
double down
Doubledown tyres are constructed like Maxxis downhill tyres: two carcass layers reinforced with a butyl insert in the sidewall. However, due to the two 120 TPI (instead of 60 TPI) carcass layers and aramid bead, they are significantly lighter than downhill tyres, significantly more stable and robust than TR + EXO tyres and therefore ideal for hard enduro courses.
3C MaxxGrip
The well-known 3C downhill compound, which many of the best downhillers have trusted for years, is now called 3C MaxxGrip. 3C MaxxGrip offers the ultimate grip and cushioning properties for unrivaled downhill traction.
