Maxxis Assegai WT 3C MaxxGrip TR Downhill Tyre
Maxxis Assegai WT 3C MaxxGrip TR Downhill Tyre
The Assegai is the ultimate downhill tyre, co-developed by former downhill world champion Greg Minnaar. He has incorporated all his many years of experience in racing. The basic idea behind it was to get the best out of already known Maxxis profiles. The good-running lugs from the Minion DHF and Minion DHR II were implemented in the center of the tread, providing excellent rolling on hard surfaces as well as grip on wet roots and stones. The HighRoller's slightly reshaped side lugs take care of fast corners. These give you a clearly defined limit range and sufficient reserves at all times. Finally, the Shorty adds its tread height and ensures sufficient traction even on deep forest floors. With this intelligent mix, you can really let it rip.
Wide Trail Casing (WT)
This special carcass construction optimizes the tread layout and tyre shape on today's wider rims. Traditional tyres are developed for narrow rims and have too angular a shape on wide rims, resulting in less than optimal performance.
WT tyres are optimized for an inner rim width of 35 mm, but work excellently on all rims with an inner dimension between 30 and 40 mm.
Tubeless Ready (TR)
Tubeless tyres have many advantages: You can ride with less air pressure. This gives you better traction and reduces rolling resistance. And where there is no inner tube, the risk of punctures is also reduced. MAXXIS TR tyres are better prepared for mounting with sealing milk than other "tubeless ready" tyres. The bead of our TR tires is completely covered with a layer of rubber, just like a real UST tubeless tyre. This means that tubeless mounting is successful on all rims with standard dimensions right from the first inflation and with little liquid.
Like tyres from other manufacturers, "normal" MAXXIS MTB tires can also be mounted tubeless with sealant, as the carcass fabric is very tight.
However, only the new MAXXIS TR models are officially approved for tubeless mounting and guaranteed by MAXXIS. Tubeless mounting of other models is at your own risk.
Note: We strongly advise against the use of sealant containing ammonia. Ammonia has been proven to attack the casing and can weaken it by up to 30% after just a few months, depending on the amount used.
Dual Ply Casing
Two combined fabric layers are wrapped around bead cores. This creates an extremely stable and secure casing, which is particularly important for downhill riding. There are four layers on the sidewalls and even six layers on the treads.
3C MaxxGrip
The well-known 3C downhill compound, which many of the best downhillers have trusted for years, is now called 3C MaxxGrip. With three different rubber compounds, 3C MaxxGrip offers the ultimate grip and the best damping properties for unparalleled traction on downhills. The base layer ensures low rolling resistance and stability of the tread lugs. The compound in the tread center provides the best grip on any surface, while the extremely cushioned compound on the shoulder lugs ensures the best possible cornering grip.
