Shimano Type N Brake Pad, Suits Shimano 4 Piston Brakes
There are a lot of great aftermarket brake pads out there but very few work as well as the factory brake pads the manufacturer produces. Shimano's own Type N Brake Pads are no different. They feature Ice-Tech cooling fins to combat heat generated from sustained braking. The cooling fins can be seen sitting at the top of the brake pad (above the braking surface) and tests have shown they work tremendously.
The latest N03A-RF is said to have 50% better wear than the previous N03A models with improved modulation and even quieter operation. The previous N03A pads were a newer resin compound that had 40% longer wear resistance than the previous N02A pads. Soon, the pads will never wear out!
With terrific wear characteristics, heat dissipation, braking power and consistency why would you choose anything else?
Who's this item for: Riders in need of replacement brake pads for their Shimano XTR BR-M9120, XT BR-M8120, or SLX BR-M7120 brakes.
Pad Material:
- Resin - Organic, Offers great initial bite and noise reduction in both dry and wet conditions. Braking performance can fade slightly when the brakes get really hot from heavy, sustained braking. Resin - Organic brake pads due tend to wear out faster than Sintered - Metallic pads but your brake discs last longer.
- Sintered - Metallic, Tend to be noisier in both wet and dry conditions but are more temperature stable, offering better performance in steep terrain under heavy, sustained braking. They do last longer than the Resin - Organic pads but wear out your brake disc faster.
Brake caliper compatibility:
- XTR BR-M9120
- XT BR-M8120
- SLX BR-M7120
- Deore BR-6120
Not compatible with Saint, Zee, or XT BR-M8020 due to the shape of the fins (go for Type H, or Type D).
Stand out features: Aluminium cooling fins to help combat heat related issues that affect braking performance.
What's in the box:
- 1 x pair of brake pads
- 1 x retainer spring
Non-finned pad alternative: Check out the Type D brake pads for a non-finned alternative that will fit a wider variety of Shimano 4-piston calipers.
Pros: Ice-Tech cooling fins have been proven in testing to reduce heat build up from heavy, sustained braking.
Cons: Not compatible with Shimano's earlier model 4-piston brakes due to the shape of the fins.
